What constitutes grounds for Impeachment.

Clinton did not violate the heart and spirit of the Constitution

Clinton did not behave as if he were above the law.

Clinton did not create an illegal war that led to more than twenty five thousand wounded and over thirty six hundred dead.

Clinton did not operate behind closed doors to decide policy.

Clinton did not engage in torture or rendition.

He did not eavesdrop on the American people without the approval of the courts.

Nor did he deny any American the right of habeas corpus.

Yet, the Republicans chose to Impeach him.

In view of some of the violations of the Constitution and the way the government has chosen to operate above the law, I predict that the question of Impeachment will reverberate through the public sector this summer.

Not only can a case may be made for high crimes and misdemeanors for this president,
there is already a petition being circulated by Dennis Kucinich that seeks the Impeachment of this Vice President.

The foundation of an Impeachment case has always been sitting in the wings just waiting for the trigger. And that well might be defined as anger.

In light of the president’s virtual pardon of Scooter Libby, it may well be that we have crossed that threshold..

Joe Biden has been asking Americans to show their disfavor by calling their representatives.

Dennis Kucinich has been gathering support for Impeachment… As of today, he has som ten or eleven names…

More and more people I speak to from the broad spectrum of the electorate are angry about what this administration has done; how it takes the law into its own hands and how
It violates the heart and soul of the Constitution.

By and large, most people tend to cluster around the middle.

And the middle is angry enough for the first time to entertain going forward with Impeachment.

With some of the lowest ratings of any president in post WWII America, the president’s good will has virtually evaporated.

People recognize that he is not interested in his legacy, only maintaining a level of intransigence and arrogance that has never been equaled before. In this case, the president is virtually taunting the public to respond.

Witness the examples of politicking at the Justice Department, the Valerie Flame fiasco, torture issues, eavesdropping without the consent of the Courts and on and on….

It may just be that the pardoning of Scooter Libby may have pushed those fence straddlers over the edge…

Ambassador Wilson charged this president as being the most corrupt who has ever held that office.

Combine these with the growing conviction that Bush is not only wrong on the surge in Iraq, but he has been dishonest with the American people all along.

What we see building is a growing level of frustration that may manifest itself in a legal push for Impeachment despite the fact that up til now there has been little enthusiasm for it..

The only thing missing is the spark that will lead to a conflagration.

And it just may be building.

Tomorrow evening on CNBC, Keith Olbermann will be calling for the resignation of the president and the vice president.

Last year, this wouldn’t have happened.

For many who call themselves progressives, these incipient moves are a long time coming.
