Reducto Ad Absurdium In Primary Politics
Are Michigan and Florida going to prove the thorns in the Primary.
Apparently, that is going to be true in Florida.
Originally, there was talk about doing a voter mail in….but as it turns out, it would cost about 12 million dollars and Florida has no experience with doing one like Oregon who’s been at it for about twenty years.
A spokesperson said there were too many opportunities for fraud and mishandling.
For awhile, it was thought that they could hire an outside firm to handle the second primary….but according to Florida law, the government cannot make the voter lists available to an outside source….or the mailing lists.
So, toss out that idea.
They could do the primary again….or could they?
It turns out that about half the districts are switching from the electronic voting machines (no trail ) to the reader type voting machines that leave a trail.
The only problem: those districts are now mostly without machines.
Or they could simply divide the number of delegates according to some agreed upon formulae.
Only, nobody’s come up with one that seems to satisfy all parties….
Or there is another option, let the problem go to the Convention and let the Democratic Committee decide it there….although most politicians agree that it could wind up being a disaster.
All told, the longest and most challenging election held by any country anywhere in the world.
An election that everyone is watching as if it were a new Shakespearean play, which it may be judged to be by some historians seeking to draw a parallel.
