The Five Year Solution

Hey, folks in Kansas, having some problems? Don’t worry,
We’ll get back to you in 2005.

That’s when the National Guard will be up to snuff! That’s when there will be enough equipment to do the job. That is according to the current government plan.

That’s in response to the governor of Kansas, a democrat of course, who said that the State does not have the resources to provide all the services it needs to meet the demands
of the community destroyed by the tornado that just passed through.

According to the governor, although they have sufficient numbers of National Guard, what they don’t have are trucks, humvees, construction equipment, and other equipment. Why not? Because we left them in Iraq. That means if there is a tornado in Iraq, we can be there Johnny on the spot….but forget about Kansas.

The governor also said something else: She said that her situation is no different than what faces states all across the country. Hear that New Orleans? Hear that Mississippi?

What does that tell us?

It tells us that we are simply not equipped to meet challenges all over the country.
According to the head of the Kansas National Guard, only 10% of their force is in Iraq, but they do not have the equipment or personnel should another challenge come up.

The former Regional Director of FEMA, John Copenhaver, admits that he cannot understand why the government did not learn their lesson with New Orleans after Katrina. He said he couldn’t imagine why they aren’t prepared.

Makes you wonder if anyone’s home…

Meanwhile the president tells us that we must defeat the terrorists over in Iraq, or they will come to the United States.

If they did, they would find Ports that are not policed and managed by foreign interests, containers that are not scanned, borders that are not protected, “first responders” who still cannot communicate with each other, critical areas, like chemical plants, that are open to attack, an inability of our hospitals to do deal with a critical overload, a lack of medicines to deal with dangerous outbreaks ad infinitum..

Now, to make matters worse, if we were challenged, we don’t even have the equipment or personnel to provide emergency aid or protect our own people.

Doesn’t that make you feel comfy?.

The fact is that this is a scandal of the most dramatic proportions and it’s being buried by the media.

We should let our representatives know that we know what’s happening and it’s appalling to us as the strongest nation on earth—a nation that cannot even respond to the needs of its people who we cannot even protect against the weather. A country so beleagured that even Bangladesh, the poorest country on earth, volunteered aid.

Aren’t we embarrassed?

Shame on us!
