The Local Scene: OUr David Appears to Face Off Against Goliath!
Hi
I found a great guy today!.
To tell the truth, I was trying to cross paths with him for two months unsuccessfully. I wanted to meet the man who had the chutzpah to run against a tradition in this state.
Today, we finally met and I was not disappointed.
Who is he?
He’s everyman and his name is Dennis Spivack.
What makes him interesting?
He is the guy who is going to run against the tide. . He is the ordinary "Joe" who is going to unseat the four term congressman and two time governor of this state--. A Republican politician who has been in politics forever; a man with a hefty war chest and a nice guy persona and a hard guy to beat. And my guy is going to take him on. And I think it will turn into a David and Goliath contest. My David is going to spank the backside of this party fixture who hides behind his "good guy" persona but still votes Republican!
Some may say that my guy has to be crazy to take on someone who has been in office so long that he thinks he owns the place. But they would be wrong. Yesterday, I met Dennis Spivak and I am here to tell you why the Republicans should be getting out their crying towels.
Dennis is the kind of guy you could meet in a pub, have a couple of brews with and feel good about! That’s because Dennis speaks from his heart. He is realistic. He is grounded. And he makes sense.
What's more, he’s known what life is all about. A wife with five bouts of cancer, raising two girls mostly by himself. Now, he is surging forward with the a tip of the hat from the Dems but not a cent to help him from the State or DNC. . This sucks! Dennis is a veteran of two tours in Nam whose trying to make a difference. A man not of privilege but who has known hard work; a man who has earned a law degree the hard way. A man that could spend his remaining retirement money in peace and quiet but chooses to get out there because he believes that nobody is out there representing the people.
This guy is taking on this state’s most popular representative yet…. and that as you can well imagine takes guts.
He's taking him on because the present representative votes Republican. He is taking him on because he is troubled by what has happened in Washington and the drop out rate of real democrats. He is disappointed in their do nothing attitude. And he wants to make a difference.
Most politicians never get beyond this point.
But my new friend, Dennis, put his money where his mouth is.
He invested 90,000 dollars from his retirement account into the election campaign. Believe me, this is money that could be used in a dozen other places. When you have a family, there is always something that needs to get done...
His opponent has 2 1/2 million in the kitty; he has nothing.
Moreover, while people invited him to meet with them; he has had no active support in the democratic districts. Therefore, I am planning to run his first fund raiser in the county.
Now, i need to make it happen.
I like this guy. He has the requisite fire in his belly not often seen today and he's pledged that he will never forget the gratitude of the group for what they hopefully will do to raise the 750, 000 he needs to run a minimum campaign and win.
I'm all for it.
I am going to give him a percentage of any profits from my new book, The Guerilla Guide to Taking Back the White House….which is about one step away from being published.
But, overall, it was a good day to speak with someone who feels strongly about poltics as we do and wants to make a difference.
What's more, if a tiny state like ours can put a man over whose running against a long time favorite, we expect that the rest of the country will start to pay attention and realize that even the small guys can make a difference.
Why am I telling you this?
Simply put, we need more Dennis Spivaks. People unafraid to go up against the establishment; unafraid to make a statement; unafraid to speak their minds. And we are the folks who can just make that happen.
But there is a formula, too and it looks like this:
Good Person + $ = A sUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN.
RIGHT NOW, WE HAVE THE GREAT CANDIDATE BUT WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY...
With your help and support, we can change our representation and change the way the world sees Delaware. I urge you to get acquainted with Dennis. You'll like him!
Les Aaron
