Usurping Power At the Expense of the Constitution

am convinced of two things.

The government thinks we are either stupid
or that we don't care.

And looking around and judging from the feedback,
one might suspect that they are right!

It’s hard to find another reason for our detachment
especially when so much is at stake. From every possible
angle, we as people and citizens are being subjected
to the worst possible outcomes…And who do we have toblame if not ourselves for allowing this to happen with impunity.

Either way, the government gauges our non involvement
as carte blanche for them to move forward with the “take-over,”
making decisions that impact our lives and our futures
without careful deliberation, discussion or debate.

And therein lies the problem with a government
that calls itself a democracy.

In a democratic form of government, all sides
must be heard; nor is the government free to
control the discussion or impose its will on the people.

What brought about this great concentration of
power that has for the most part turned what
we had always considered to be a democracy
into what has become an autocracy with monarchial
tendencies?

The question is legitimate and it forces us to look
at the past with a newly found microscope: reason.
The answer of course is 9-11.

If we didn't know better, one could look at the events
and the changes that have taken place since then
and fairly assume that the changes wrought after 9-11
have increased the power of the presidency in large measure
giving them the kind of autonomy that obviates the will
of the people—making our wishes largely irrelevant!.

If the government's intention had been to increase it's power
over the people, they could not have found a better way.
Meanwhile, the government repeats over and over again in some
hypnotic mantra that what they are doing for us is “protecting us”
against "terrorism" –this nebulous dark enemy that has no form,
no substance—thereby contribution to the perpetuation of a kind of
abstract justification for their ends.

The trouble is that an increase in government “protection”
through an increase government power is compatible with the government’s
plan and a justification for its actions…

That means, as long as the government perceives there is terrorism,
there is justification in taking away the people's freedoms.

Some might find that argument is not provable. If you can test that there
is no more terrorism, which can't be done, there is no limit to the extent
of the powers of government. so, in effect, the government has found
a way to extend its powers without limit and without a test..

Only, if one thinks about it, the enemy of terrorism is our freedoms.
If the government overrides them to eliminate terrorism, the terrorists
have already won--turning us into the same kind of aggressive power
they are with no checks and balances; no moral high ground.

To cement their arguments, the government then says that anyone questioning
their judgment is not a patriot and is a supporter of the other side.
This is a wonderfully constructed argument that suggests that they can authorize
their own power without dissent and still call themselves a democracy.

Only, such devices are not new. They were used in pre-war Germany to destroy
the Weimar Republic and they are being used now to destroy what is good
and important about America.

What are our options?

In the past, government self-adjusted; that was in the days before TV and before
the lobbies realized that instead of being controlled by government, they in turn, through the use of money, could control those who exercise the power of government.

Our second resource to protect the public was the Fourth Estate, the media.
None of these options are available to us today because the media no longer exists
as a form of “checks and balances” since the government controls whether the media
can continue to exist.

As a result, it is we the people, the Court of last resort, who must speak up if
we are to protect those freedoms that are most essential to us.
For the most part, the people didn't realize their powers but in a government of
the people, they retain the right to replace a government that does not respond
to its needs but seeks a narrower, self aggrandizing purview instead.

It is no shame that we don't know about these things. For the most part, our government has never reached out and seized power before as it has done now. In the past, we could always count on checks against such raw abuse of power; but it has happened in our lifetimes and, now, we are all up against the wall.

The danger is that in the absence of intelligent, concerned dialogue, the travesties and polarities presented by this government will manifest themselves in growing extremism and in blood being shed. Should this occur, all bets are off. If that were to happen, those who control the military and the power win. And our democracy is kaput!...
