Nine Against the World
What if you were told that you could only muster up nine people to aid you in overcoming vast opposition with unlimited wealth and unimagined power? Then to make matters worse, you were told that those nine people had serious problems. One was a very old man who was born into abject poverty, another was an exceedingly grumpy man who was physically out of shape and had the habit of turning people off, , another was an isolated soul who seemed to fail at everything else he had done in life, another was a bastard son who didn't know who his father or mother was, another preferred his own company to that of others, still another was a chronic depressive, and another so handicapped he couldn't walk, would you immediately throw up your hands and give up?
Probably most of us would. But what if I were to tell that that inventory included the 9 Greats! The 9 most important people in the evolution of our democratic society--Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Patrick Henry, John Hamilton, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and FD Roosevelt would you think differently?
Imagine our country if these nine people had not existed.
Where would we be. And thanks to God that we found each other at the right time and when we needed them most.
Yes, these were people from vastly different backgrounds, extremely incompatible backgrounds, people who might have trouble engaging in polite conversation, people who were impatient, handicapped, depressed, neurotic....but thanks to them we created the longest lasting democracy known to man. And if that doesn't blow your socks off, I don't know what will...
Just thought that was a little story to inspire you to the Power of One--the ability of one to do great things that don't need fancy titles, big staffs or a lot of unnecessary window dressing. As the man was to discover who sought out the secrets of greatness his entire life that the secret of greatness was mostly tenacity.
Can you help us become great again???
