"The Man Who Can Lift Us Up!"
While Kerry beats his gums talking about whether he would have supported the War or whether we should stay there and Hillary, our theoretical front-runner, talking about whether it should be legal to burn the flag or not, only one person is talking about the real serious issues and the Constitutional challenges we face.
Think about it. Who has picked up the standard for the democratic party that we can have faith in? Who can bring us to victory? Who is out there who is willing to say what needs to be said? Who is intelligent enough and articulate enough to not only grasp the issues at hand but able to communicate to the rest of us what the dangers are.
Who is willing to lay their careers on the line--for surely that is the issue here: Courage. Having the courage to speak your mind earnestly and doing the job that every representative needs to do: Protect the Democracy!
There have been incident after incident of abuses and yet nobody of any consequence has stepped forward. We have been let down. Our representatives respond to our impassioned pleas with rubber stamped responses... When they do appear, they seem to inhabit a bubble, they do not see things the way we do...
We are without heroes....with the exception of one.
And that one is Al Gore, a man stepped in the history of his country, a man we can all respect for his grasp of what is happening to the democracy we live under and respect.
He has the foresight to see the challenges we face and he has the courage to speak to these challenges in a clear and eminently lucid way that dispells any doubts we may have.
We are the people and he is the means--the means for us all to join together in a crusade to take back our country.
in each of the speeches he has given, I have risen out of my seat to applaud everything he has said.. He has been right on every count. He has been ahead of his time in recognizing the threat that many of us have chosen to ignore. He has made us aware that the enemy is not Al Qaeda, it is our own government. And that we are in serious danger of losing our democracy to an avaricious greed for power on the part of the Executive.
With the advent of TV advertising, we have lost the traditional checks and balances that provided a modicum of protection against the uprooting of Constitutional law.
With the greed and self interest of the Fourth Estate, we have seen our democratic rights jetisoned before our eyes. Yet, we choose to do nothing about it.
Al Gore, the other day, said that in a democracy the people wield a responsibility to its perpetuation. We, too, have failed on that score.
Now, it's necessary for us to balance the scales, to regroup and mobilize in order to preserve our government that we have grown up with and expected to always be in place, a government for which our families gave their blood to protect.
We cannot afford to do otherwise than protect our Democracy for our children, our grand-children and the future....and to that, I personally am willing to take an oath to commit myself. I hope that you, too, feel as I do; that it is necessary to multiply our forces in the protection of the democratic process and all that it stands for. And that we must stand shoulder to shoulder if we are going to precipitate change at the highest levels.
To that cause, I stand behind Al Gore as our front runner in an election that is more than a year away. I hope that we can become an inexorable force that will communicate to this arrogant leadership that we are not to be ignored or treated as if we do not matter; that we are potent, and determined in our mind-set. ANd that we are joined at the hip in our desire for change.
Do I hear an "amen?"
