Hubert H. Humphrey: A man torn between his liberal tradition and his loyalty to the president
One of the first and most enduring
liberals to grace the Senate, Hubert H.Humphrey.
Lost out in an election bid after
Johnson decided to quit the race.
Ironically, Liberals considered him
too alligned with Johnson to represent
their vote.
While Humphrey was gaining in the
polls, Nixon won the mandate taking office
win a plan to win. The "plan" which
had undermined Johnson's truce talks,
took two years to unfold leading to 55,000
additional casualties on Nixon's watch!
