Government Proves It's Possible To Rank Below Incompetence!

Subject: Primal Causes: the Republicans. Dealing from the bottom of the deck again?
There are a lot of questions jumping through my thoughts today. How come the market is so jittery and that there was such a big turn-down yesterday? Was it really because the growth companies and industry leaders did not show enough bottom line moxie? Or is there something else underlying the hesitancy we are seeing with the Dow Jones dropping more than 200 pts to erode its entire advantage
since the beginning of the year.

Why did it happen to coincide with the re-emergence of bin Laden. Any connection?

It almost seems that when you need a good jolt, Bush snaps his fingers and there's another tape message so that the government can keep the heat on the average consumer.

This theme was reiterated yesterday in a speech by Karl Rove, yes, the same man who has been keeping a low profile since it was suggested that he might be implicated on the Valerie Plame outing...

Yesterday, he suggested that only Republicans had the appropriate post-9/11 attitude and that democrats were not unpatriotic for their stand criticizing Republicans, but they were wrong, wrong, wrong on terrorism.

Certainly, it is no secret that the redounding theme of this administration will be anti-terrorism with a continuance of the same policies. that should be no surprise. It should also be no surprise to discover that at the end of this administration's term that we will be no closer to healing the gaps that have been created in our own society; that the jobs situation will be equally bleak; that the Industrial-military complex will continue to have its way with the majority of our budget--more than 200 billion dollars for new programs; that Medicare will still be screwed up and that the poor and elderly will still have to decide whether to eat or take their medications!

It is a sorry sight. Watching the president series on PBS for perhaps the third time, I honestly cannot find one president of the past who can come close to the arrogance, the ineptitude, and what disturbs me mostly, the lack of concern or detachment that this administration not only demonstrates but exudes. It is depressing to think that the media has not made hay with it when you consider how much
momentum was extracted from much less significant incidents in the past with far fewer consequences.

Now, we are talking about events that have the potential to tip the scales one way or another; we have an Executive branch that has adopted pre-emption as a matter of policy abrogating decades-old treaties that have stood the test of time; we have hundreds of billions earmarked for programs that don't work and we can't even kick-start our own industry in this country.

In the end, this government will be judged on many levels. Quality of life will be right up there with education, the conduct of War, programs that impact the middle class, the separation of church and state, work, international relations, the high cost of prescription drugs, etc.

It is too early to say how we will be judged; what is interesting however that the media, the Fourth Estate knowing for its role as the ultimate guardian of checks and balances has curiously been quiet through most of this and hesitating to point the finger.

Yet, the inexcusable failure of a government that cannot produce sufficient vaccines two times in a row; a government that can't rescue a city knowing that destruction is on the way; a government that cannot find someone who has deliberately spread toxins through out the northeast despite the fact that those toxins were produced in only one plant; and a government that is so inefficient that after it organizes a Medicare program it can't get it to work, has to go down in history as a government seriously wanting in virtually every department. This is not a government that puts forth an effort on anything that is not in its own interest; on everything else, it is not merely incompetent, it is a disaster!.

And that is without even considering the violations of the constitution or the corruption that is evidently wide-spread in a government with a very narrow focus and demonstrated parochial interests.
