The Importance of Thinking Small!

Sometimes, in the right hands, a few words can change one's view of the world.

In the hands of Edward O. Wilson, noted entomologist, a few facts about natural life, should change our world and our perception of it.

Whenever we tend to become overly obsessed with man and his perceived self-importance, we should hearken back to Wilson's staggering and awesome insights about the importance and significance of the smallest creatures in our world.

Here's just a few to ruminate on that should have the power to change the way we look at things from this moment forward:

Four out of five animals on earth are nematode worms--We know 16,000 different types. There could actually be millions of different species and we don't know anything about most of them...
We know 3,000 different species of bacteria. There may be however more than 3 million different species we know nothing about in a single ton of garden soil.
We know nothing about what these creatures do for us...or what our actions are doing to them...
Global Warming will alter habitat in ways we don't understand; however it is likely that one quarter of all animal and plant species will disappear from earth!
If we allow the lonely ant and other insects to disappear, most of life on earth will disappear, too.
