Dopier Myopia
There’s nothing dopier
Than excessive Myopia…
What a botch of it
We made…
In less than
one million years
We’ve turned our habitat
into tears
I can even see
doing one’s thesis
On our abuse of species…
We shoot them here,
We slay them there
And we seem to do so
With such little care
Abusive as we are
We hasten earth’s demise
With toxic fumes
From our car
The oceans growing warmer
Much unlike the former
Now, it seems
we’re all remiss
For eliminating
all the fish!
But do we give a damn
If our tuna’s
replaced by ham?
And our salmon
Tastes like Spam?…
If Global Warming Strikes
Does it get any better
If we don’t own a sweater?…
How little concern we show
For everything that we grow…
With nameless poisons
And TNT
We carve out
Our destiny…
In our craven yearning
It’s the stocks
that must be earning,
If crassness is the measure
Why not accumulate treasure?
And if wealth is all that counts
It’s reasonable to swell
The size of our accounts…
We can’t seem to really see
Beyond tomorrow
And our fixation on narrow ends
Portends of future
harrowing trends…
We’re selfish, too, and so you know
And we care less for your body
Than our own little toe…
And so it goes, ,my friend,
That we can look forward to
A rather chilly end,
Smug and arrogant by turns
We’ll probably turn out
Good for worms,
But no need for hysteria
It will be better you can be sure
If we’re all replaced
By a more socially responsible bacteria!...
