Let's Get the Lead Out!

The irony is profound.

We ship out jobs and manufacturing in order for companies to make more profits and guess what? It comes back to haunt us.

It turns out that while labor costs are lower so is the concern for product quality.

In fact, quality seems to be the last thing that the Chinese think about.

I mean these are men and women from the boondocks who are happy to make a few cents an hour. They’re not thinking about meeting our quality control standards, they’re wondering how they are going to earn enough to keep grandma in rice for the next year, buying the medicine for their sick daughter, and just putting a little meat or fish on the table…

And, instead of us finding this great bonanza that helps us stretch our depleted wages, we discover that the stuff we’ve been bringing in in bucketfuls is full of lead, contains breakable parts, has deadly ingredients and so much more…

You can’t fully blame the Chinese; they are simply doing what the manufacturers tell them to do.

The problem is our own personal preoccupation with getting the biggest bargain! And industry’s obsession with bigger and bigger profits!

It’s not about marketing; it’s about making it as cheap as you can and selling it as high as you can. That’s why today top executives make 430 times on average what the worker on the floor makes.

Something wrong with this picture? You bettcha!...

But guess what, guys, people are sick of the result of greed and profits at any price.

They’ve discovered that they really don’t want cheap products, they want products that they can trust. They want products without lead, without small parts that can fly apart, without toxic contents.

Think of this: What a great opportunity for Americans to start making American products in America again. What if the grass roots got together and said that the one thing that will differentiate us from the garbage being imported today is Quality.

How about a grass roots consortium of liberal toy makers?

Let’s face it: Quality is going to be the buzz word for the new generation.

And now’s the time to get with the program.

Are you listening, Mr. Bush?

September Redux. It's termed fiction but many will recognize the truth in this fast paced adventure that pits the best of Al Qaeda against a new antiterrorist task force. This task force goes against everything that's been done in the past. It's our best and brightest without the restrictions of the bureaucracy. They've been given one ultimatum: Get the terrorists.

What is known is that the terrorists have assembled an international network which allows them access to enriched materials and the technology to put together an unimaginable threat to America. What's more, the time line has been shortened with the agreement of the clerics that bin Laden has satisfied their requirements for Jihad

Now, America has the tacit approval of the Islamic faith and the weapons to humble the West. What happens next unleashes the biggest manhunt in American history to find the enemy before he unleashes his multiple weapons of destruction against us.

Where will they hit? And why?

And are we prepared to save our world?

The window is closing and the world's best thinkers must come together to unravel the puzzle before our world implodes.

This book tells you things that you won't see anywhere else.

It is predicated on the author's frequenting the restaurants, cafes, and living near the mosques that define modern day Islam and being an editor with a progressive magazine prior to 9/11 and covering the events of the day and its aftermath...

Even today, many of the questions raised are still unanswered.

And this provocative thriller not only entertains but helps focus the readers attention on why this is more than just a fictional account of what could happen if we don''t start finding answers...

LAST POST:

THERE IS A SURGE IN DEAD AND WOUNDED, TOO…

Who will take responsibility for the hundreds more dead and wounded?

We’ve all seemed to fall in line waiting for an outcome that has nothing at all to do with the end of the War in Iraq.

We have been subjected to bait and switch tactic and we bought into it.

Let’s get serious for a moment: What does it mean if the Surge is successful?

It doesn’t mean we are one iota closer to a solution than before the Surge started.
.

The purpose of the surge, need we remind you, was to free up time so that the politicians would have breathing room to arrive at a POLITICAL solution.

It didn’t happen.

They went on vacation instead.

And it won’t happen either unless there is massive and fundamental change in the way this government does business.

And what are the chances for that? Nil!

No matter how successful the Surge, it has nothing to do with whether there will be peace or war in Iraq.

And while we stalled again, another one hundred plus Americans died while the Iraqi government went on vacation.

The fact is that unless something happens with the government there will be no political solution. And if there is no political solution, there can be no peace.

Why, therefore, are we barking up the wrong tree?

Why are we so locked into a strategy that will not and cannot work?.

By now, we should have etched in stone before our eyes, Armies don’t make political solutions; all Armies make is War. The name of the game is Diplomacy and having the right people in place.

We don’t have the right people in place—either here or in Iraq.

And it shows bigtime!....

War is not the solution; nor the failed attempts at what our government calls progress.

With this kind of thinking, it’s surprising that we are not switching to swords and arrows.

When will we be honest? When will we address the real needs of a country that we wrecked with our child=like naivete solutions.

Will this go on forever; or will men of good will throw the baggage out!

IMMIGRATION AND THE MEXICAN CHALLENGE…

We are having extended conversations about the problems of Immigration and it seems the more it’s discussed, the less its understood. There have been few issues as polarizing as the question of Immigration.

These are composites of some of the questions posed by concerned citizens:

Do we send the “illegals” home? Do we make them pay a fine which could amount to six months of earnings before they can apply for citizenship in the USA? Do we ignore the legal status of the children born in America as citizens? Or do we just send the offenders to jail?

What do we do about the Border, per se? How do we react to a president who purportedly supports the legislation but, in reality, wants to keep this source of cheap labor flowing to his friends and benefactors?

You see, the level of complexity builds like a precarious house of cards. There are misunderstandings on both sides of the issue and the loss has been in objectivity as adherents and opponents scatter to opposite ends of the spectrum.

Consider that California’s Representative Hunter stands firm on the fact that money had been set aside for building hundreds of miles of border while actually only eleven miles have been completed.

Others suggest that the responsibility should be placed on the shoulders of US Corporations who hire immigrant workers without adequately checking their credentials rather than put the onus on the poor Mexicans or other Latin Americans-- who simply want to make a living for their families. According to this view, it is the employer who should be punished for employing illegal aliens alleviating the illegal immigrant for any responsibility for his or her actions.

Many suggest that we simply return the illegal immigrants to alleviate the burden on hospitals and the social system.

What the politicians avoid considering is even if you wanted to return the illegals to their home, how do you find them? According to estimates, there are from 12 to 20 million “illegals” scattered around the US. And even if you could locate them, you don’t just stick 20 million people on buses and send them home.

There is a common joke making the rounds about how you find the illegal aliens. According to the story, “You send them a UPS package because Brown also finds their man and then you send them home…

But the fact remains that 20 million people who are here illegally is a force that’s hard to deny. Already, they number about 7% of the entire population. To put this into perspective, there are nearly ten times as many illegal aliens as there are legal Muslims in the United States….

Whatever we decide it needs to be well reasoned and be fair to all concerned parties.

The fact remains that most of the aliens are working in low paying jobs that most Americans don’t want; but other legalized aliens might.

What do we do about it?

In all of this back and forth, two things have been missing. The real support of the president for solving the problem and the complete absence of the Mexican government in discussions of any kind pertaining to their missing citizens….

How can we proceed to find answers to the questions of illegal immigrants, mostly from one country, without the interest or support of that country?

Interestingly, our government has failed to raise this issue and one wonders why.

Some might say with the Mexican and American governments already proceeding with a North American Union behind closed doors, the idea of making them responsible for the population of “illegals” might interject a problematical issue.

But the overall question remains: Why is this government so disinclined to be willing to work out an amicable solution to one of this country’s biggest challenges.

These are questions that we have not had satisfactory answers to as yet.

And, yet, it may be the first order of business beyond the question of the Iraq War.

One would do well to keep in mind the fact that we face another challenge of more illegal aliens in the coming year and perhaps as many as ten million more in the coming ten year. If we continue to delay the inevitable, we will face a geometrically increasing problem with an inverse relationship to possible solutions… if we don’t start workin

It is time to for our government to act now to restore sanity to our immigration policy. The bottom line is that we already have a process in place that has served successfully for two hundred years….Why not use it?

Bush president for life…

Among those considered as “unfriendly” to the current administration, there is a nagging belief that what sixty percent of the population is opting for, an end to the War in Iraq, may not happen in accord with popular wishes. There are forces growing within the White House that forces us to keep alert to other possibilities that are driven by political considerations and personal agendas.

We don’t mean to be especially arcane here so let’ get down to cases.

Most of us realistically understand that the Petraeus report after it’s finished being edited by the powers that be will demonstrate that “the Surge” is going well and those are grounds for its continuation into what may appear like perpetuity to those of us who still remember the quagmire of Nam..

But perhaps the bigger question remains if Bush is gone, will the same kind of policy stay in force. Looking at the possibles, Giuliani and McCain, that is not a real stretch. Both are, and there is no other way to put these, jingoists, who are more influenced by what they want to believe, than the facts that have surfaced.

However there is an even more nagging possibility: That George Bush may not want to relingquish the reins of the presidency. After all, it is the closest thing to being Absolute Monarch and he already knows that he can influence and control Congress and without Congress, the public cannot do anything to him because they do not have the backbone to demand his Impeachment. Unlike Parliamentary styles of government, we do not have an easy way to jettison someone who is unpardonably insufficient to the government and is too mired in agendas of his own to concern himself about the public good.

But how could Bush continue in his office? After all, he has some of the lowest popularity poll results in modern day history?

What if Rove’s resignation was in order for him to return home to prepare for the next phase of Bush & Company.

Keep in mind, that Bush’s star was falling prior to 9/11.

The only thing that brought him to prominence again was the fact that we felt as if we needed him to save America.

Bush had promised to go after bin Laden and destroy the terrorists.

He never achieved his goal; yet, 90% of the population at the time was willing to follow him to the end of the world.

One does not want to editorialize on a lemming culture….

The fact of the matter is that it was not his intent to eliminate bin Laden. If he did, he would not have the rationale for all of his precipitous actions which were broad brushed to suggest that everything he did was to end ‘terrorism.’

Nobody bothered to ask precisely what was “terrorism” and how it could be ended in our lifetime. According to chapter and verse from this administration, “terrorism may be the threat that descends upon you at birth and never leaves you til you are dead.”

While this prospect is alarming, it reflects the basis for most decisions. We attacked Iraq because of the threat of terrorism. We have the Evil Empire made up of terrorist nations who are anxious to export terrorism. Everything is terrorism related.

Why?

Without the threat of terrorism, who is George Busch except the most ordinary of people who is revealed for what he is. It is terrorism that holds this administration together and gives it its force.

Think otherwise? All you need do is look at his falling poll numbers at the end of his first year in office. Nothing positive was happening on his watch; and the people were growing increasingly dissatisfied with his government for the few mantra.

What if Bush did not want to leave office?.

What if another terrorist act impacted upon the United States?

Could Bush then declare an end to Civil law and take over government postponing elections for the foreseeable future.

This could be a scenario that plays out given the willingness of this government to jettison the Constitution of our land and the Bill of Rights.

It may not be so far out an idea as one might think if one examines all the patterns of abuses that have taken place over the last seven years…and it forces us to be especially alert to warning signs.

What warning signs?

Like a build up for war against Iran perhaps?…

Security and Prosperity Partnership….

An Report by Les Aaron

Robert Pastor, who is with the American University, ad considered the architect of the North American Partnership, said when questioned about the purpose and intent of the SPP, said that the controversy involves just a handful of people who don’t fully understand the nature of the SPP and its intended role.

He is right about that. The reason: Everything connected with the SPP is conducted behind close doors and what leaks out tends to fuel suspicions that we have an economic juggernaut building who’s intentions are to bypass the laws of the United States.

One does not have to look further than NAFTA, on which one suspects that the new alliance is modeled.

What the facts reveal is that virtually knows anything about the SPP.

And the reason for that is that ther has been no transparency at all on the SPP.

About all we know is that the president of the United States, Canada and Mexico support the building of a network of highways that will criss-cross the United States, linking Canada and Mexico.

That by itself sounds pretty harmless until you think that it will allow Mexican drivers, in some cases aged fourteen years of age, driving old rigs that are not regularly inspected by the Mexican government to enter into the United States and drive our roads that are maintained by US tax dollars.….

Moreover, what they are talking about are not ordnary two lane secondary roads but giant eight lane high speed highways.

The question that is raised is what’s going on. What is the SPP? And what are these highways that nobody talks about…

The SPP is the acronym for the Security and Prosperity Partnership, a program being constructed behind closed doors by leaders of Mexico, Canada and the United States.

Beyond that, very little is known about the activities of the group.

Why? Because the SPP wants it that way which incidentally raises all kinds of questions by itself.

The fundamental question becomes: “Why would an organization that is committed to protection for North America, a questionable benefit, and trade have to operate behind closed doors?”.

And where is the money coming from to support the meetings and the road building programs which many speculate is only the tip of a very convoluted iceberg.

The SPP, of and by itself, sounds like a deceptively progressive idea but that is the inherent danger. We see only what we want to see. . For the idea to proceed, it would need a lot of things that are dependent on capitalization. However, oddly enough, the idea has never been explored or approved by Congress; it has never been approved by the Canadian Parliament; nor has it been discussed or approved by the Mexican legislature so we really don’t know the “ins” or “outs” of a proposal that seems to have grown legs out of sight of government “watchdogs.”.

This by itself is highly questionable for that’s how ideas proceed in a democratic form of government.

What we do know that’s been confirmed by at least three sources is that the SPP is more about trade than protection. According to what’s known, some 125 leading businesses have already signed up to participate in the SPP.

Why not go through conventional channels?

That seems to be the point. According to what people are saying about SPP is that will operate around government to avoid legislation, taxation and the law.

Does that sound possible?

If you read the NAFTA bill there was much that was not understood at the time the bill was passed. For the most part, the bill was written by lobbyists and subjected to Congressional representatives three days before the vote. Consisting of many hundred pages of laws and regulations, few claim to have actually read the bill before it was passed.

However, we have seen how it operates.

In one particular landmark case between Canada and California, an oil additive was sold to California but was later learned to be toxic leaching int the aquifer. California removed it from distribution and the Canadian manufacturer sued the State. The verdict was reached by private parties behind closed doors and the people had no say in the outcome. The Canadian company was awarded $125 million in damages.

It is suggested that the SPP is modeled on the legislation of NAFTA, which supersedes the powers of the Country. The concern is that if the White House goes forward with the SPP, it may well threaten the sovereignty of the US.

At one point, a think tank in Washington was formed by the leading powers in this administration, Rice, Rumsfeld, Perl, Cheney, and it was committed to a “new world order” where America was recognized as the last leading superpower. The organization’s philosophy which was central to American policy was that it was in America’s interest to push its advantages in the larger world, intimating that it was not inconsistent with its goals to use force to achieve its ends. This was frightening for several reasons. The leadership of this country was deciding what was best for the people and, strangely, that was consistent with what was best for the few, a handful of empowered leaders with extraordinary ambitions and delusions of grandeur..

Is the SPP the dry run for the realization of this concept?

That’s a hard question to answer and a disturbing one. Nontheless, when one considers the readiness of this government to subvert the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and this governments self-serving policies and tactics which seem to place the welfare of its citizenry last, it is not hard to imagine that there would be any compunction within this government to consider to consider protection of its sovereignty.

It is time that the full story be demanded by the American people.

Exactly why is it necessary in a free society where transparency is highly valued to go behind closed doors to negotiate a contract that will improve trade and protection?

There is something malodorous here!.

Once we answer that question, we can begin to make up our minds where the government stands on the public good and do what’s necessary to wrest control and power from their hands…

Les Aaron..

Media

Here’s your chance to bring democracy to the airwaves

A special report on Media and the FCC

Folks, if you believe that the airwaves are dominated these days by a handful of Media moguls, you may now have an opportunity to do something about it.

To his everlasting shame, Newt Gingrich will go down in history as the architect of change at the FCC, pushing a compliant Powell for the sake of his “friend’s” interest in completing his stranglehold on American media and, thereby, ending diversity and competition for the public airwaves. The Murdoch, Powell, Gingrich entente sealed the fate of media diversity for years to come and empowered the already powerful to extend their reach for domination of the public airwaves. And by so doing, Gingrich had already brazenly violated the intent of his book: To eliminate corruption and graft in Washington!.

And that was the kiss of death and the end of media freedom.

The result Gingrich got his book published by Murdoch (with a fat advance) and Murdoch got to buy all of the media around the country that he didn’t already own along with other giant media companies.

. . For those who think I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill: consider that Clear Channel, then one of the leading radio stations with the maximum number of stations allowed, forty, went out as soon as the bill was passed and grabbed up a total of 1200 stations in one year…And as soon as the grab was completed, in a pattern now familiar, the media powers cut staffing and support, relying instead on network preprogramming.

Unfortunately, the people doing the grabbing were made up essentially of the top ten media companies in the US who are in effect the ones who now control what we see and hear.

Well, you say, there’s still the Internet, a haven of democratic and liberal thought.. Don’t be fooled, check out the busiest websites and you will find that they are owned and operated by the same group of people.

There is something critically wrong with this arrangement.

If you think about it, by the intent of the Founding Fathers, the airwaves are free and to be used under license, participants agree to abide by the public good. It is written into the provisions of the FCC regulations. Therefore, in exchange for the egregious profits that accrue to the lessor, there is a concomitant obligation to provide news that is factual, objective and honest.

Unfortunately, all three qualifiers have been lost in the rush for more and more profits!

If one reviews the records, very few hew to that responsibility.

Under the present scheme, the giant companies can say pretty much what they want without fear of censorship (unless you’re a liberal or left wing communications company: witness the ongoing challenges to PBS!) and without fear of having your license taken away.

In fact, for the most part, no government official at the FCC even bothers to check whether the subject media station fulfills its obligations under the law. And licenses are granted with submission of a post card; that is, if you haven’t offended in the lucky sperm club that runs things inside the Beltway….

In the process, we, the public, have suffered from media that is homogenized, edited, neglected, omitted and Bowlderized. In short, we have been cheated by the process and, consequently, know less than our peers around the world

To add insult to injury, a casual study shows that most people today still get the bulk of their news from the network’s half hour news broadcast that consists generally of about fifteen minutes of “news” which usually also includes a human interest segment and very little serious content….

These broadcasts barely cover the high points of what is really news and more often than not fail to treat the news of the rest of the world, leaving us isolated and misinformed on a whole range of issues.

Why? This truism should be etched in stone: The media’s agenda is not our agenda.

The truth is that most news companies would broadcast flower arranging if it made profits.

The media couldn’t care less whether you’ve had your fill of objective information, they only focus on the bottom line.

Here’s the harsh facts: The environment that existed during WWII and the early fifties no longer exists. The news segments have no patriot who is willing to stand up and say, “I can’t take it any longer;” not in the age when profits are the prevailing mantra.

For the most part, the media, as part of its goal of controlling what we see and hear and read, also recognizes that it has an obligation to the government that gave them the freedom to grow exponentially. As a result, the media’s role as the custodian of the public good has been sacrificed to the individual good of the corporation and government—not a good model for the rest of us!.

And the price is that we what we see expurgated and Bowdlerized as befits a mogul who controls an empire whose future is dictated by the benevolence of government.

As a result, we have been exposed to otherwise responsible media serving as a vehicle for “leaks” or as a sounding board for proposed policy in direct contradiction of what a free media is supposed to stand for. Moreover, increasingly to gain “access,” the media has been wiling to allow itself to be used by the subject to float trial balloons or to rewrite history to benefit the subject and those he/she represents. At the same time, investigative journalism has joined the ranks of the dinosaurs.

This is the slippery slope.

When the media finds it expedient to protect the private good over the public good, we are all in trouble.

A Time to Act:

The reason I mention this is because we are approaching time for a review of the FCC regulations that govern the laws that dictate how many stations the media can own thereby limiting diversity and how much control they can exercise over what we read, watch and hear. The time is now to write your representatives, contact the FCC and write letters to your local media to let them know that it’s time that the media was opened up again to competition and diversity.

Not doing so, sanctions the frightening prospects of “1984” a scenario that none of us believed we’d ever see happen but, unfortunately, are already living through…

Are the forums good or bad for democrats.

One must wonder in the larger scheme of things whether the forums are ultimately good or bad for candidates-- during the Sunday morning dehate in Iowa among the democratic candidates as moderated by ABC’s Stephanopolis, senior Washington analyst, we were given a chance to make up our own minds…

A corollary might be “Would the democratic candidates be better served by not appearing at all at forums where they either ignored (second tier) or can expect to be peppered with questions the answers to which might not lend themselves to a two minute response?”…..

It seemed to me, firstly, that the format was eminently unfair. It was designed to provoke negatives…

Here’s why: While the front-runners were showered with questions, the second tier candidates received little attention. Therefore, it seemed impossible under the rules of ABC, that “second tier” candidates, so readily consigned, it seems, to the dust bin of history at such an early time in the primaries, cannot rise above their station if the moderators are unwilling to hear them express themselves.

The second tier therefore should go on strike for equal time and equal treatment. After all, isn’t that the democratic concept?

I think Denis said it best when the subject of prayer came up. When he was finally called upon, and asked about his position on prayer, he said that “I’ve been praying for 90 minutes that you, George, would call on me.” And that perhaps said it best.

Stephanopolis called on Kucinich exactly twice and cut him off once. Therefore, it is easy to see how the debate can becomes a popularity contest for the ‘front-runners’ and reinforce the stereotype that the second tier were really the ‘second tier’ and not quite ready for prime time…

Then George in a seemingly fiendish attempt to go for the ratings, pulled out all of the plugs to instigate trouble among the candidates by trying to provoke arguments over what many thought were miniscule points while neglecting the real stands of the candidates on the issues. This, I thought, was reprehensible.

We didn’t even know where the candidates stood and we were trying to have them pick fights with each other. This was not American Idol after all, it was purported to be an attempt to provide an experience that would help to inform the citizenry.

Although it might be important to know the nuances of a candidate’s position, it was far more important that we understood the broader question of the issue, itself.

But George wouldn’t let it go. Had he drawn comparisons between republican and democratic positions, he might have had a leg to stand on but by focusing on minutia, the forum was revealed for what it was: The Roman Amphitheatre where the Christians had been thrown to the wolves.

Denis was right again by accusing ABC’s Stephanopolis of emphasizing the microscopic difference among candidates instead of getting more out of them about their individual stands on the issues.

It was clear that most of them had the same overall general goals and instead of emphasizing that they stood head and shoulders apart from the republicans, he chose, it seemed to me, to nitpick among the democratic candidates.

I think we all would have been helped considerably more if the candidates were allowed to spend ten minutes each to focus on the platforms and the key issues that they represent and to explain how those issues differ with their opponents. I truly believe that such a venue would have not only been more productive and interesting but would have given each of the candidates a chance to differentiate themselves—even the so called ‘second tier’ candidates would have to admit that such a tactic would have helped level the playing field; however, it might not have done much for the ratings!

I don’t mean to single out Stephanopolis, only to suggest that the format as now adopted seems to have less to do with the candidates and where they stand, then creating a kind of combative atmosphere that is less informative than hostile to energize the ratings that have been rather dismal despite their attempts…

You may have liked the forum but I don’t think it particularly favored any of the candidates except to reinforce some already closely held preconceptions. If you thought O’bama was inexperienced, you may have felt more so by the end of the debate. If you felt that Hillary was establishment and inside the beltway politician with high negatives, well, you probably didn’t change your mind yesterday. If you thought Mike Gravel was there to upset the apple cart, you were probably right. But all of the candidates had a point of view that few got to air and they all should have been heard if you wanted to call this a democratic debate. As it turned out, it seemed to attempt to fragment the democrats and make the republicans seem perhaps as well qualified. I think it was a big plus for the republicans.

What We Know is Not What We Do

On War with Iran:

On one hand, it is hard to believe that we are in such unreliable hands with this government, on the other, it is perfectly reasonable considering the care and attention we pay to what our elected officials say and do.

In the past, I would have said that it is impossible to entertain the idea that the executive thought it was within their purview only that they could declare war unilaterally since that was as far from the intent of the original constitution as possible.

\But in the current climate, the constitution and bill of rights have been set aside and unilateralism rules in a vacuum that in effect constitutes a dictatorship that extends to the people.

Yesterday, a confidante of Bush said that Bush had told him that God tells him what to do.

God told him to invade Iraq.

And 63% of the population blamed the Iraqis for 9/11.

When we are addled in the brain and afraid to enforce our constitutional rights, than we are primed for whatever this ruling cabal should decide to hand out.

Walter Krugman's book spells it all out.

We might as well understand the rules we operate under.

The dems will fall in line; the media won't touch it; and good people will behave in the way described by Reinhold Niebuhr when discussing how good people responded to the Nazi threat, there is not much hope.

If good people do not rise up and now, the future looks particularly bleak despite the fact that the Founding Fathers laid out a path for us.

Disinterest Morphs into Disabuse...

We definitely need a deux ex machina...
Don't you think in some ways we shall get what we deserve; that we must pay our dues and if we don't, we can't really complain?

Here's just a few markers along the way that dictate not only why things have happened but also the shape of things to come...

We have not paid our dues.

We have expected everything to work out like a nice story book scenario.

It hasn't.

We expect that we do not have to do anything to preserve democracy; it is self correcting...

We believe that "all politicians are alike"

We believe that we are only one person and one person has no power.

We believe in letting others do the heavy lifting; that what we are doing is too important to get involved with trivialities like politics...

THE DOWNSIDE OF A GOOD EDUCATION:

Can you imagine Bush went to the number one prep school in the country: Andover....

Yale and Harvard, too.

For what end? To fail at everything?

Consider, WonderBoy had the benefit of a dream education.

And yet he doesn't read; doesn't think straight and can't seem to evolve a positive policy that works on anything.... He is incoherent, disconnected, and totally unfeeling. (Does the fact that the Globemasters still fly into Dover every day interrupt his sleep? Does he ever really put himself in the shoes of those who hear the sound of taps for their loved ones?....
I doubt it!)

He is zero out of the box!-- a non achiever who doesn't seem to get that he is heading up an administration that is being kept together with baling wire and spit and paste...

He has turned the Justice Department into a mockery....

He and his colleagues have cheapened the Courts...

He thinks it is right not to be flexible on new information...instead of just seeming intransigent.

He thinks you make diplomacy by not talking.

He thinks the way to peace is to strong arm your neighbor and tough it out.

He has set aside the treaties of 37 years and said it is okay to go to war first if we believe that there is due cause.....like slam dunk WMD that don't exist!

He thinks that American democracy is the cure for everyone's ills yet he sees no conflict with ignoring our own Constitution and violating it every chance he gets....

He is likely to screw his friends when it is in his interests to do so...
Look how we treated England's Prime Minister. Why would anyone trust our word?

He seems to be totally immersed in the ideas of biblical prophecy that he can envision the truth.

He thinks that the bad guys are "good" because of his infallible vision that has proven wrong 100% of the time...

He can't connect two words coherently....

He calls the leader of the Iraqi government a good guy and argues that's why we should continue to support him even though he has failed to reach one benchmark.

He rewarded the former head of the CIA for not using all the information it had on terrorism before 9/11 and awards him the Medal of Freedom

He similarly honors the civilian head of the Pentagon for not sending enough troops and being wrong on everything on Iraq....

He stands behind the fourth wing of Government, the Vice President, who was elected to represent the people of this land, not to make self aggrandizing policy from a bunker....

The architect of his policy that has set this country back a dozen years, Karl Rove, is considered a genius of what...evasion and Segretti-like tactics that are reminiscent of a totalitarian state...

He spends a year plus on vacation more than any president in history and claims he spends his time with those Shakespeares...while in fact he gets off cutting brush and setting it afire....

He feels no obligation to the truth, to the people, to the country and is currently trying to negotiate behind closed doors a North American Union that will circumvent the laws of this great land...

And he fails on his military obligation and claims to be a great hero of what America stands for...

This is the benefit of a great American education?

All I can say is what a waste of money; too bad that kind of education was given to someone who would have really appreciated it...

And yes, it's true, sometimes pond scum rises to the surface.

Who is the Green Candidate?

The young activist actor, Leonardo DiCaprio , and the producer of the Eleventh Hour, said when asked who best represented his interests among the candidates at this point...

And he said none of them.

This raises an interesting question. How many of the candidates has talked at all bout green concerns.

Who has talked about a plan to get us off fossil fuels, who is dedicated to weaning us away from dependency on foreign fuels.

When push comes to shove, it seems that everything else was on the agenda except the future of the planet.

Nobody talked about global warming in a way that would show their commitment.

Nevertheless, in our childrens lifetime, there may be no more polar bears, no more penguins, half our cities might be underwater, and we will be no stranger to diseases and other conditions that are common in the tropics.

If nothing is done, we will still be beholden to foreign powers....
and we will have pushed the world to the very edge.

What are we going to do about it?

Where do our candidates stand on the issues of global warming?
What are they going to commit to to make our world a better and safer place to live...

Or are we all going to be faced with New Orleans over and over again?

These are frightening prospects for anyone who cares about tipping points from which there may not be any coming back.

But most of all, these are legitimate questions as we embark upon the most important election most of us have ever faced.

Americans Against Escalation in Iraq

Tired of the war? Want to do something about it?

Check with Americans Against Escalation in Iraq. www.noiraqescalation.com

They are doing something about it.

They are working around the country with field volunteers and trained operatives to make a change in the political situation.

They are bringing pressure on local politicians who have supported the War in the past to change their votes…

And they are doing it with editorials, marches on the candidates homes and even large rallies in the State’s where the elected officials can make a difference.

One of the states earmarked for this kind of activism is Delaware.

In Delaware, I was contacted by the field representative through a friend of a friend.

They have been working tirelessly all summer to bring about change.

In our small state, we have one representative, a republican who has voted repeatedly to support Bush’s views—even though he says that he is against the War.

Americans Against Escalation in Iraq stands for setting a date and a timetable for ending the War and bringing our troops home safely and securely.

As a Vet, it is a cause I can get behind without much hesitation.

I liked the idea immediately and thought that it was something the Committee for Positive Growth could support….

The field person asked if I would work to make their plans a reality.

After some preliminary back and forth,
yesterday, we had a meeting between ourselves to discuss much of the facts and positions -- stuff which we had already gone over. Present was myself, the field organizer, Sarah, a representative from the parent organization and another activist who has been with me on other political issues since the Election in 2000.

We met to discuss the organization’s plans and we lined up with them almost immediately.

Afterwards, we went to our appointment with the editors and staff of the leading local newspaper and they were supportive of the efforts of our group which was surprising because all of the newspapers and media down here are about as conservative as you can get. It just shows how the climate is starting to change.

I agreed to write the opinion piece to appear in one of their upcoming issues in advance of the planned rally.

On August 28th, the Americans Against Escalation in Iraq group will have their big Summer Rally, considered to be the highlight of the Iraq Summer event in Wilmington with speeches, presentations, a rally and fun, games and food all day long.

Buses will be organized to ferry interested activists from all over the State to Wilmington for the event.

Late that afternoon, we will as a group call once again on Representative Mike Castle to reverse his support for president Bush’s position and demand that a timetable be drawn up to have the troops return safely and responsibly..

I’m including a blurb on our local event from the National Group which is supported by a wide range of organizations including Move-ON, Working Assets, and others.

Iraqi Summer

This is my commentary in support of Iraqi Summer, the coalition of organizations to end the War in Iraq and send our troops home safely and responsibly.

It is scheduled to appear in the leading newspaper in Sussex County, Delaware:

“Representative Mike Castle says he wants U.S. troops out of Iraq, but talk is cheap. The congressman’s record shows he has consistently voted to keep our troops in the middle of a religious civil war under President Bush’s reckless Iraq policy, even though the vast majority of Delawareans more than 70 percent of Americans want U.S. troops redeployed out of Iraq by April 2008.

Meanwhile, the Bush administration recently raised the stakes of the Iraq war even higher when Lt. Gen. Doug Lute – the president’s “War Czar” – said he is considering reinstating a military draft. The three-star general explained the draft is “on the table” because of the incredible strain Bush’s war has placed on our military with repeated and extended deployments. This bombshell announcement followed recent statements by General David Petraeus that U.S. forces should stay in Iraq for another 9 or 10 years.

As a veteran and opponent of President Bush’s failed Iraq policy, I find it difficult to back a military solution before a political solution is thought through. The purpose of President Bush’s so-called “Surge” was to give the Iraqi government enough breathing room to work toward political reconciliation. Instead, it has become a vehicle for them to work out their vacation schedules. No political progress has been made.

Our noble soldiers stand in the midst of a religious civil war. It is impossible to trust the same administration that told us the mission was accomplished and the insurgency was in its last throes.

Therefore I, like thousand of Delawareans, stand with the members of Americans Against Escalation in Iraq and their “Iraq Summer Campaign” to demand Rep. Castle take a stand against President Bush’s endless war.

On Tuesday, August 28th, the Iraq Summer Campaign will conclude its 10-week effort with a “Take a Stand” town hall meeting in Wilmington. Rep. Castle was invited to the event, to have the opportunity to explain his stance on the war. The congressman declined the invitation, once again refusing to answer his constituent’s questions on Iraq.

Please join me on a bus trip to Wilmington, to show Rep. Castle that folks from Sussex County are tired of endless war and want their congressman to stand with them against President Bush’s failed Iraq policy and vote to bring our troops home safely and responsibly.

If you would like to participate, please contact Sara Jankowski at (202) 425-0978 for arrangements.”

Deceptive Practices in Global Warming…

There are some things it’s okay to be conservative about; and there are others where being overly conservative in one’s estimates can make one unjustifiably complacent…

Consider: If you underestimate your carbon footprint, we’ll, that’s not too big a deal! You can adjust for it later on and the world is not going to come to an end.

But if you’re a respected scientific group and you underestimate the effects of global warming, we’ll, frankly, that could be disastrous especially when you are gambling with the future of those who have placed their trust in your findings…

This has been the case over the last half dozen years where literally groups of those who have an interest in maintaining the status quo routinely underestimate the effects of global warming after months of battle to get them to even agree that global warming exists in all of its permutations….

Thusly, the effects of global warming have been understated by groups of scientists in the employ of some of the leading oil companies. Even other legitimate scientists have come down on the wrong side of this issue for reasons largely unknown….

When you make a mistake that can be measured in terms of meters , it can mean the difference of whether your property is land or water.

The newly revied estimates predicated on measurements indicate that the estimates may be off by as much as 1 ½ meters—that’s better than four feet…. a significant mistake when your State may only be about sixteen inches above sea level.

Estimates before the revised data in Delaware alone indicate that if nothing is done to remediate the use of coal for energy production—one of the principal producers of carbon dioxide—a proven cause of global warming, we can expect to see not only one tenth of the State underwater, but the entire State underwater by the end of the century.

Of course, when this came to light after the State decided to entertain new sources for producing energy, the people came together to promote alternative energy sources and gas piped in from other states.

But the prospect of a rise in sea level is not good news for anyone who is not in the toll bridge or boat business, and it underlines the fact that as responsible citizens, we need to get beyond the misleading misstatements of the government and get tougher with those who would mislead us to advance their own interests…

Considering that the melting of the Greenland cap continues unabated and that ice is thinning on the northwest coast of Antarctica
is on the increase, we cannot afford additional delaying tactics.

We must bite the bullet and make the hard decisions to commit to alternative energy, solar panels, wind energy, alternative fuels, cars that operate on cellular electricity and every other possible source that can reduce our dependency on foreign oils and the brain boggling logic of the oil companies…and a government that we can only say is ‘complicit.’

And we need to take action immediately to assure concerned taxpayers will not have to worry about property rights and the guarantees of ownership.

In future issues, we’ll cover some of the newest ideas in alternative energy and smart, reusable resources that can help us to restore sanity to the planet.

For the time being, we hope that concerned citizens will feel as concerned as we are and band together to push solutions for our grandchildren and the planet…

Keep posted!

Buy America:

A number of us joined at the waist by the Internet have talked about the idea of promoting a Buy America philosophy. Especially now with all of the abuses most Americans have had to endure with shoddy products being imported that can injure or harm our children and foods that have not been tested.

Americans have had it.

The government responds in a lackluster way and seems unconcerned that many of us have had pets die, or bought toys that were painted with lead so that we can now all feel guilty for doing something that we thought was natural: giving our grandchildren a gift.

If we can’t trust our government to take charge and to become involved in protecting our way of life, maybe it’s time for us to take matters into our own hands.

Maybe it’s time to band together and not only keep our jobs here but do what is necessary to assure that we are never put in the position again of having to spend good money for bad or dangerous products.

Here’s the hard facts to swallow: All of these trade deals were never designed with our interests in mind in the first place; They are designed to make bigger and bigger profits for the executives who fill republican coffers while sending our jobs off to never-never land…

Here’s our concept:

Our idea is to begin with the county fairs and the farm groups that are starting to show up everywhere and have them join together under a banner of buy America.

All they would do is coalesce around this common concept and perhaps pay a fixed fee depending on their volumes of business in order to join the national program and receive its benefits. These may range from brochures, logos, designs, advertising, publicity, etc.

There is no limit to the amount of support we can provide if there is support from fair participants or the fairs themselves. We would be the prime drivers of the concept nationwide. We would develop a whole litany of programs ranging from advertising, direct mail, PR to demonstrate that this concept can work and how everyone can gain from their participation….

We think that Americans are ready to listen to that argument and that we can start taking care of ourselves if we can’ get our politicians concerned enough to want to do something to rectify a situation that has gone from bad to worse.

What we believe is that Americans would surely like to buy American products if given half the chance….and that doesn’t only mean vegetables, but craft products, breads, jams, second hand clothes and furniture.

We are tired of paying high prices and buying dangerous crap from overseas that we can no longer trust!

Moreover, this would be the first step that democrats would seize in a heart-beat.

It would mean that we would encourage the government to get behind small businesses with loans and guarantees to get America back up to speed. And we would rebuild our domestic manufacturing business…. Do you realize that today, we don’t even make machine tools, the building blocks of manufacturing; Do you also realize that many of today’s biggest companies are owned by foreigners but passed off as American. Americans can’t even make the precision parts used in our newest weapons! This is an outrage…
And it has to change. And we believe that we can make it happen by starting at the lowest level and building a head of steam.

We know it can be done because America has the will and the ability to do anything and a large built in market that is the envy of the world.

Wouldn’t it be great if Americans, themselves, could take over their futures and again lead the world as a model for what can be.

Will you help spread the word. We can offer the help on many levels but it shall have to be a marriage where those who participate discover the large scale benefits of identifying with the Buy America movement….

We believe that this is an idea whose time has come.

And we know that there are many, many talented people who could get behind this idea!...

So think about it, pass it along and volunteer….

Buy America!....an American idea for Americans!

A Blueprint for Winning!

Six months ago I wrapped up my book A Blueprint for Winning.

I wrote it not to make money but to warn democrats not to expect an easy win. I wrote it as a lesson. I wrote it for the purpose of reviewing the past and examining the reasons we’ve lost election after election. And what we can do to change the negatives to positives and reverse our long slide into irrelevance.

For the democrats to be viable, we can’t expect the candidate to do it all.

We have to be informed. And we have to act. That is the concensus.
Democracy cannot be taken for granted. We have seen just recently how quickly it can slip out of our grasp.

Is democracy not worth fighting for…

We have to know where we can extend our influence on the local and national levels.

And that’s what I’ve attempted to do.

My book gets into it all: It talks about the methods and techniques of winning a campaign, using research, expanding the tent for all people of every background and nationality.

In short, it’s a game book and it gives the user a substantial advantage as a citizen and one who is concerned about outcomes.

It also gets into a National Twenty Point Program to Rebuild America as the leading economic power and as a model of stability and peace.

It takes issue with the present economic thinking, which, by the way, is slowly starting to change. It takes another look at NAFTA and other Fast Track agreements that removed the voter from consideration.

A Blueprint for Winning is a book that shows us how to outmaneuver our rivals who have had thirty five years to build the most successful juggernaut ever conceived in politics and it is also a warning that America cannot afford to be in Republican hands again!

We’ve priced the book for groups and for those of lesser means starting at $12.50 for disks and even less for e-books; the formal big book edition, signed and endorsed, runs 24.95 plus 5.50 shipping and handling from Lulu.com.

If you buy the book directly from the publisher and you are a legitimate group on orders of 10 or more, we will rebate 10% of the book cost. This is only for the full First Edition.

We have several hundred first editions left and suggest that you get your order in ASAP. Mail your check or money order to LAACO llc, 239 Lakeside Drive, Lewes De 19958. Please allow four to six weeks for delivery.

Profits will be used to support the work of The Committee for Positive Change, a political activist group that supports the work of other organizations as well undertaking its own missions in environmental and political programs aimed at the needs of progressive interests.

Thank you.

The Petraeus Deception
While we all sit around waiting for General Petraeus to come up with his report on the effectiveness of the “surge” strategy, we learn that perhaps what we have been told is different than what we should expect.

As it turns out, the word making the rounds is that it is not General Petraeus who is going to furnish the report, it is the White House, which is quite different than what we were led to believe.

This was explained yesterday by a White House spokesperson who reminded us that it was Congress who wanted a report from the president; and the president is the one who is going to respond.

While General Petraeus has said that he is hoping for a reduction in troops over the next six months, it is highly unlikely now that we shall hear his precise words which we must conclude will now be shaped, edited, and mined for its political value.

This is another case of being told one thing but having to live another.
This practice has been virtually the modus operandi of this government over the last seven years if you were listening closely enough.

One must believe that General Petraeus must now feel like a man between a rock and a hard place. If he tells the truth, he may lose his job. If he develops a plan that the president does not like, one can almost guarantee it will be changed. Either way, he cannot win. If the plan pleases the president and it does not work, it will be his head. If he totally modifies the plan, and the president doesn’t like it, it could still be his head.

What irks we the public the most, is that Bush has harped on this being Petraeus’ Plan.
In everything Bush has said and done, it was made clear that this was going to be the report of the general on the front line of command. Now, we know that that isn’t going to be the case. That General Petraeus is being used as a pawn as everyone else associated with the White House. You are either in the Inner Circle that Bush trusts, or you are one of his pawns.

It’s a damned deceitful way to run the government.

Most of all, I think it does considerable damage to the Repubican Conservatives who have continued to back Bush predicated on the results of Petraeus’ reports; now, they know that they’ve been had, too. For them it must be the ultimate betrayal that will mean that they will have to go back to their constituents and try to explain that they were deceived by the leader of their own party.

Too bad. They must have forgotten the old adage: When you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas!

For the dems at least, the Primary Season is over...

If you’ve been paying attention to the forums, debates and listening to the pundits, you’ve probably come away with the same conclusion:

The Media is going to decide the candidates.

And, for the most part, they already have….

I will venture to say that the front runner status of a candidate is more or less predetermined by the number of times that candidate is mentioned in the run up to the Primaries.

If that’s the case, the Primary has already been decided.

Here’s why I say that:

In virtually every discussion by the media re the democratic candidates, someone will say that the probable winners are either Obama or Hillary.

And if you say that often enough, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Well, I have to say that, folks, based on that criterion the Primary has already been decided.

Tactically, it is almost impossible now that the media has repeated the names of Hillary andObama so often that it is indelibly imprinted on the minds of those not even in the mood to think politics.

So, where do we go from here.

The fact is that all of the other candidates are wasting their time.

And if Hillary and Obama don’t screw up, the rest might as well resign now.

They don’t stand a chance.

Of course, this is no way a Primary should be conducted; only what can you do about it.

All of the rest is wasted motion….

Of course, the republicans are already starting their playbooks and as you well might imagine, the contest itself is not going to be pretty.

Expect the rise of the Swift Boaters once again to pillory whomever of the two who wins the Primary.

This is an offshoot of the more than successful dirty tricks campaigns of Donald Segretti hired by Nixon’s lap dog to do his dirty work and then carried forward by the whole laundry list of dirty tricks players from Lee Atwater to Dick Armey and including Newt Gingrich who only manage to see the other’s failures in the morality department…

Of course, the republicans are drooling over the prospect of having Hillary as their target this election.

Hopefully, Hillary will not make the same mistakes as Kerry in not responding promptly to their innuendos and claims which were nothing but an assemblage of lies…

Like no other time before, we must be tough to take them on and win!

But hope blooms eternal.

Les Aaron

"What they say is not what they do!.."

Word leaked out that something like 190,000 Russian submachine guns got lost and are presumed in the hands of the enemy. So, we shrug our shoulders. But it doesn’t end that easily.. The other day, there was a report of a Christian pastor in Turkey shot during prayers by a teenager with a Glock. He had a grudge against the west. This has happened on at least three other occasions—all of the incidents involving Glocks.
An investigation of serial numbers revealed that these Glocks were supposed to go to the Iraqi forces and were supplied by the US. Turkish officials have reported that there is evidence that at least 20,000 Glocks are on the Turkish black market and they have been supplied by the US.. These weapons have a street value of at up to 3,500 dollars.

A little backtracking has revealed that these weapons were being distributed by those working for independent subcontractors to Iraqi forces.

Clearly, the subcontractors were not too meticulous with their distribution and in some cases kicked weapons “enough for two battalions” out the back door of their Globemasters in areas being fought over by Iraqis purportedly aligned with us…….

Why bother, since they are operating on ‘no-bid’ contracts that nobody’s going to check anyway.

Oversight and control are dead issues in this War….

Armored vehicles: We also learn that the reason these new armored vehicles were not manufactured or shipped already to Iraq was because the military planners at the Pentagon thought that this war was an anomaly; that in other wars, we wouldn’t be up against these IUD’s; however, we’re discovering that they are already showing up in Pakistan, Southeast Asia, Thailand, and other countries….

It was it seemed a few choice words by Gates that changed the priority.
He had asked whether Army blood was as important as Marine blood (The Marines had ordered these vehicles!)….

With mistake after mistake and incalculable risk to our GI’s, this war has demonstrated
What we already know: That the protection of our military is not this government’s first priority. And “what they say, is not what they do!”

They should have listened to Powell in the first place.

A Man for All Seasons....

I suppose we should all feel grateful for Mitt Romney.

After all, he has volunteered his three sons for the toughest task at hand.

They volunteered to get him elected.

Imagine sweltering through the heat of New Hampshire, slugging through the cornfields of Iowa weighed down by hundreds of Mitt Romney signs saying “Look at me…” That’s sacrifice that goes beyond the pale…..

Trying to mount those signs like those marines climbing Mt. Surabachi at Iwo Jima in the face of all that opposition. How many knocks on the thumb with an overanxious hammer are we supposed to overlook? How many times will they have to forego their afternoon tennis games to assure that their father is well-covered in the media. It’s a tough life turning a two dimensional egoist into a serious presidential candidate. Not something better left to amateurs…

No, it’s tough job being forced to consume fast food and running out of coke when you’re out in the field trying to do your best to push your advantage, but somehow that’s how it goes…

Think how much more they have given to the most important task they could ever hope to perform: Electing the right man, a man who believes that it’s important to promulgate a religion that made its stand on polygamy and killing those who got in their way, a religion that makes its founder the equivalent of a god.

That’s something to look forward to.

Hey, I have nothing against these guys. In fact, I just realized that they can’t drink coffee…or tea, or coke or anything with caffeine in it—so they face a double hardship: Being out there in the sun and having to not only put off the tennis game but also barred from every having a Super-sized coke….Or for that matter, ever entering a Starbucks for a grande Latte or an espresso Americano….

I wonder what would happen if they succumbed….like Adam in the Garden of Eden.

Do they remove your Starbucks credit card forever and have you drummed out of the caffeine corps…

Who knows? Anything’s possible….

Anyway, tough sledding, guys.

Time to go home and bone up on a little Lawrence Welk.

I guess when push comes to shove, you are entitled to a little recognition for all you’ve accomplished with all of those millions that your dad had time to earn when he wasn’t praying for more business…

I mean it is a big deal to win 31% of about 12, 000 people in a straw poll that Giuliani and McCain and Thompson didn’t bother to attend at a cost of about $3 million dollars. So what if it’s cost you about $1,000 a vote even though its non-binding and doesn’t count!...

So, it’s keep up the charge, mates. And keep knocking on doors.

Eventually, someone will believe what you have to say….

For their willingness to sacrifice so much, perhaps we could give them the same kind of medals that we gave the Director of the CIA or Secretary of the Army, past. I mean they’re really making the same kind of contribution to our national inertia….only perhaps more so…

And in the meantime, Mitt, keep on changing your mind about everything because that’s the American way and then no one can say you didn’t have a position, or several positions on the news while we continue your search for Howard Hughes…

It's the Seven Year Plague of Egos Again!Talk about egos.

It's hard to see a bigger pair of egos than the one's poised to run for president except for the current Narcissist whose mind-boggling remarks make you want to head for the bathroom...

As it was pointed out in a NYTmes editorial, you would think that most Americans would be sick and tired of more egoists running for the job of top dawg.

If you missed it, you had to hear Mitt, the twit, Romney, talking about how his boys are giving their all to get their father elected president which is the best thing they could do. Imagine equating the boys getting shot at and wounded with putting up election signs....

And then Giuliani compounded the stupidity by replying to a question about first responders on 9/11 by saying that he was there and exposed to the same things they were.

Baloney!

He was there for photo ops!

THey were there to dig through the rubble seeking to find human remains.

If he doesn't see a difference, than his ego has already supplanted his common sense...

Anyway, the big question is whether Americans will put up with another egoist come this election after being saddled with somebody who equates his own brush with a tree with the poor GI's he visited who have undergone the most serious types of wounds.

These people are beyond being embarrassed by the stupid things they say.

They should be barred from politics just for their insensitivity and their big egos.

No wonder most of the rest of the world hates us!

Two years of Frankenstein…

Sounds like a new broadway play by Mel Brooks.

Bush is going to have to survive without a brain for two years

With Rove gone, who will prop up the man…

He was looking bad last month when things seemed to be getting to him, but
He always had old Rove to fall back on.

Now, unless they’ve developed some kind of sci-fi alchemy that works, Bush will be on his own, or the next best thing…

Folks, we are one step from drool!

If Bush turns to Cheney for coaching on the ways to win friends and influence people, it’s all over.

Yet, it seems as before, Bush will be the last one to know it.

Good job, Rove…

You’re going to let the ole man hang to save your own ass….

Well, maybe that’s the way things go. What goes around comes around.

The inarticulate one may now become the enfeebled one when somebody else is charged with sending the electronic messages to the lecturn or when Bush is wearing his unsecret
Communications machine under his jacket.

Bush should know when to quit.

It’s time to fall on his sword and leas t go out with some dignity.

To make himself a horse’s ass in front of millions is no option.

When is his wife going to tell him the truth?

Some actors never know when to leave the stage.

To think, when he started out everybody told me I was wrong. That he was a good guy; that he was going to make the world a better place.

You see, the majority is not always right!

Thoughts for September: Unsurprising Surge Results, 9/11 Memorials and Bad Apples

As I think about the upcoming Labor Day, the anniversary of 9/11 and our GI’s stuck in the mud over there, I cannot help but think about our national hero who gave up a valuable football contract to serve his country.

Not only have we not shown the Tillman family the appropriate respect, it is clear that our government and the military is engaged in a cover-up.

What is this now, the seventh investigation?

How many investigations does it take to get at the truth.

Military experts have already studied the problem and admitted that it could not have been a case of mistaken identity.

And there is proof it was “friendly fire.”

The parents have been lied to, accused of not being good Christians by a commanding officer of this Army and have been mislead and deceived throughout the entire course of this sham investigation.

Originally, the president said that he didn’t know anything about it.

Then they said inferred that he was shot by terrorists.

Later, they admitted to friendly fire.

But what just came out of the so-called investigation is that not only was it friendly fire, but the assailant was close enough to put two rounds, less than two inches apart, in his forehead.

This is not only a close shot, it is an expert series of rounds carefully planned and placed.

What can one gather from this experience?

It seems to me perfectly clear that virtually everyone connected with this fiasco has lied or misled the family and blurred the facts to put the best possible face on them.

I’ve been in two actions myself and I have never seen the government try to cover up the way it is doing in this particular case.

As we know, in this government, the decisions flow from the top down and there is no tolerance for embellishing the facts which leads one to suspect that what has transpired has been the decision at the very top of the pecking order.

I suspect that anyone looking at whatever has emerged as fact in this case can only conclude one thing: This is a case of deliberate murder.

To think that we cannot get any nearer the truth with soldiers who are under the command of their generals indicates that nobody wants to get close to the truth.

It is time for the civilian courts to take over this farce and for the family’s troubles to be put to rest as best they can; but not through lies and innuendos.

It is another sad for this country that we have been besotted by a proliferation of rotten apples at the very top.

Not a very bright prospect as we prepare for our final vacation of Summer.

It will be time to get back to work soon and our first action should be to jettison the entire crew.

Otherwise, we shall have to live with the lies forever.

A Denizen of the Swamp Calls it a Day!

You know what troubles me most?

What kind of signals are we going to send out to our young,

If we don’t persecute those who do what they want arbitrarily to our laws, who operate out of self interest, and curry favor with special interests.

It troubles me to think that Cheney’s assistant got off the hook, that smug little twerp, with a few words from Bush and that a big contributor paid his fine. And then Bush has the audacity to tell us with a straight face, that he paid his dues.

What Bull!

What does that say to the rest of us?. That there are two kinds of law: One that applies to the poor and disadvantaged; and the other, that applies to the rich who have influence.

We all know Valerie Plame was mistreated by the editor from the Times and Novak and we all know that Cheney and the president were behind it.

So, now, with Karl Rove, the mastermind of half this crap that comes out of the White House, retiring, who is ultimately pay the price? We know the answer to that, too, is going to be Joseph Wilson who has already said that this has to be the most corrupt government on Earth!...and his wife, Valerie Plame.

Karl Rove is just going to walk away from this whole thing…the same way Rumsfeld did after he got his medal that supposed to extol him as a wonderful citizen of this country.

Some citizen who sends the young to die for a nonsense war engineered by him and his neo-con buddies that has nothing to do with bin Laden, who is allowed to get off the hook time after time. It already looks as if Bush wants bin Laden to stay alive. Maybe he recognizes that without bin Laden, Bush never would have gotten the support to revamp the laws of the land, snoop on all of his enemies without a court order and serve the special interests that define his administration.

You need a strong stomach to probe into the belly of the beat here!

And that only scratches the surface.

The chances are that the Attorney General will be repaid. Repaid for his loyalty to his master but not for serving the American people or doing the job he was to be appointed to.

And the list goes on, the head of the CIA, who calls it a “slam dunk” gets a medal and keeps his retirement except that he deceived all Americans.

In the end, I suppose that even Abramoff will get off the hook.

As the two Supreme Court justices who voted for ending the 2000 vote even though it was shown that they had a particular interest in the outcome and should have reclused themselves which would have changed the vote…

And none of the democrats will bat an eye.

It’s depressing to any of us who studied government and understand what it’s all about.

I can tell you what it’s done for me: I shall never believe anything that the media tells me; nor will I any longer accept the words of any politician out of Washington.

The whole system needs to be overhauled. And purged. And sanitized.

And we need to introduce a Parliamentary system that allows us to get rid of the beggars with a vote instead of having to go mad tolerating their continued abuses of our laws and our way of life.

Agree or disagree? I’d welcome hearing your point of view.

Debates More a Beauty Contest Than A Test of Knowledge Or Commitment

Okay, we’ve heard a lot of platitudes and conservative jargon, not much else when you think about it. Everybody is going to change the world….and we accept those good intentions and not to disparage the candidates who are trying to maintain a high profile in this popularity contest.

But the fact remains that ‘showboating’ does not address my needs and I happen to think that my needs are pretty representative of what most of the public feels.

So, I’ve decided to list some of my concerns and see where the candidates come down on these…

I don’t expect to get a solid 100% from my candidate, whomever he or she might be, I would just like to be convinced that they've done their homework on the substantive things not just the stuff that looks good at forums and debates. We're not talking about bombast here but meaningful content...

First of, I want one tough son of a bitch to represent me whether it's a man or a woman...

They are going to have to be tough to survive the maelstrom that they will be exposed to.

There's no doubt about that.

As soon as the Republican’s elect their candidate, you can be sure that memories of what really happened will disappear faster than an icecream cone shared by six kids on a hot day!

And guess who's going to get the blame?

Not only will our candidate need to be tough, they will have to know how to get things done immediately! No time for a Jimmy Carter; this has to be a candidate who can stand up from Day One...

Right now, the only priority we here about is the War. This damned war that we should get out immediately. Nobody except Kucinich addresses the fact that we should have never had a war; that is insane to contemplate war in the first place except as perhaps a last resort. (I will admit that Obama hits some good notes here!...)

Compare this with that maniac Tancredo who is ready to bomb Mecca and Medina… We sure have a bunch of bright light republican candidates…(The rest believe the Earth is 4000 years old and your great, great antecedents rode a dinosaur--these are definitely who I want running our technology-driven country).

Biden has had the right idea and he’s had it all along. I know Joe and he’s been struggling with this entire War issue since we got mired in it. And I disagreed with him in many ways when he originally talked about the need to stay there. But for the last several years, it is to his credit that he worked it out through numerous visits and weighing what the government is saying compared with what he saw with his own eyes.

No, I want somebody who recognizes that a vote does not mean democracy.

It means Iraq got three different ideological groups in power who not only don’t want to work together, they want to kill each other as fast as possible.

This is not the basis for a political solution.

What Joe suggested is partition and bringing politics and rule down to the local leaders and rulers. That’s about the best we can do.

Under the circumstances, the longer we stay there, the longer we fuel the bloodshed. Period.

But the War will be over and then it will become time to consider all of the other issues that have been overshadowed by the War.

I want to know what the candidates are going to do about a myriad of things.

From global warming to jobs, from the economy to NAFTA, from immigration policy to rebuilding America.

This is what I need to hear.

But not only that, I don’t want sugar-coated 'solutions, ' I want to hear real world stuff like what are they going to do specifically about each of the above problems.

I haven’t heard it and I’ve listened to each of their forums.

I don’t really blame the candidates, per se, because the nature of the forums, debates do not lend themselves to much beyond trying to protect yourself after somebody’s accused you of something.

I would rather see each candidate get a half hour on maybe Charlie Rose to answer these key questions.

What are the issues as you see them.

And specifically tell us what you are going to do about them.

Charlie Rose had Joe Biden on last week and I learned more from that Show than I did from any of the speeches that I’ve heard before.

Right now, I get the distinct feeling that the candidate who speaks my truth is least likely to win the contest, Dennis Kucinich.

And that’s how it is with beauty pageants more than horse races.

But everyone should get a chance including the maverick, Mike Gravel from Alaska who has a lot to say but little time to do anything but yell back at his colleagues. He, too, deserves to be heard.

This won’t happen unless we let the media know how we feel.

Or perhaps organizations like Move-On.

We all know that electing somebody to the office of president without studying his or her qualifications and experience is a short cut to entropy.

Now, armed with foreknowledge, we should all be as tough as hell in our responses to the media.

Nobody ever said that maintaining democracy was going to be easy!
