Pro Environment Bill Needs Your Support!

Dear les,The Interior-EPA Appropriations bill for the coming year, which sets spending levels for all types of programs that protect the environment and public health, will soon be voted on byCongress. Earthjustice is supporting a variety of pro-environmentamendments to this important bill. Protecting all of ournation's waters under the Clean Water Act, safeguarding ourlargest national forest, and guaranteeing that no minority orlow-income community has to shoulder an unfair pollution burden are the goals of these amendments -- just as they are priorities for all Americans. Please tell your representative to support these environmentallybeneficial amendments today! You can take action on this alert via the web at:http://action.earthjustice.org/campaign/FY07_interior/wx5egskrr5kwi7w?Visit the web address below to tell your friends about this.http://action.earthjustice.org/campaign/FY07_interior/forward/wx5egskrr5kwi7w?Stand up for forests, clean water, and environmental justice INSTRUCTIONS TO RESPOND VIA THE WEB:If you have access to a web browser, you can take action on thisalert by going to the following URL:http://action.earthjustice.org/campaign/FY07_interior/wx5egskrr5kwi7w? Your letter will be addressed and sent to your representative ----SAMPLE LETTER TO BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],I am urging you to pass a Fiscal Year 2007 Interior, Environmentand Related Agencies Appropriations bill that adequately fundsthe protection of our environment and public health. I also urgeyou to support these three important amendments:(1) The Chabot-Andrews Tongass Subsidy Amendment, which wouldend taxpayer subsidies for new logging roads on the TongassNational Forest in Alaska. Since 1982, the Forest Service haslost more than $850 million subsidizing the timber in theTongass. Today, American taxpayers pay more than $150,000 forevery timber job on the Tongass. (2) The "Protect All Waters" Amendment, to be offered by Rep.Oberstar and others, which will stop the EPA and Army Corps ofEngineers from continuing to implement the illegal policy ofrefusing to enforce the Clean Water Act in many waters of theUnited States. This policy, in place since 2003, has leftthousands of wetlands, headwaters streams, lakes, ponds, andeven some rivers without any federal anti-pollution safeguards. (3) The Hastings Environmental Justice Amendment, which wouldprohibit federal funds allocated to EPA from going to programsthat conflict with the goal of achieving environmental justice. No community should be exposed to disproportionately high levelsof pollution because of race or income level. Thank you for your consideration.Sincerely, les aaron----END OF LETTER TO BE SENT-----EarthjusticeBecause the earth needs a good lawyer426 17th Street, Oakland, CA 94612-2820Politics Blog Top Sites
