The Petition For Change

The Petition: Supporting Al Gore for President

The 08 Committee of concerned citizens, a Delaware based and organized group, has formed the Ad Hoc Committee for Improved Government that seeks to return to the core values on which democratic government is based on; not rule by one man..

The 08 Committee concurs that overzealousness in the exercise of power that subordinates the other two branches of government was not what the founding fathers had in mind when they built the foundations of this great country two hundred years ago.

We have also seen this government violate the rule of law over and over again and jettison the principles that are central to the Constitution, the document on which our democracy depends for its core ideals and values. Further evidence of the Executive’s power is their ability to conduct torture in violation of all government edicts and guidelines and hold American citizens prisoner without the rights of habeas corpus; the ability to listen in on the conversations of American citizens, without being subjected to the rule of the Courts, in violation of the Constitutional rights of all citizens; and the ability to assign government troops inside the United States in violation of posse comitatus. In addition, we have seen the Executive branch mandate the power of making war, create policy, execute treaties without discussion, debate or consideration as to whether any of their edicts violate the sense and the meaning of the Constitution and without the benefit of checks and balances as envisioned by the original framers of this fundamental document supporting our democracy.

When a president feels that he or she is not subject to the rule of law that emanates from the powers of the Constitution, then Democracy is threatened and the people must take corrective measures if our elected officials fail to do so.

In that light and predicated on his grasp of the issues, we have prepared a petition to seek Al Gore’s candidacy for the upcoming election.
