"Pentagon Targets Hero As Leading Cause of Problems In Iraq"

Now, I've heard it all. Stomp on the messenger if you don't mind.

Ex sergeant Murtha has become the target of the military. I just read about it in my military newsletter.

It seems that General Peter Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, has now ratcheted up the rhetoric and is blaming veteran Murtha for being responsible for the slump in recruitment for troops in Iraq. Why not blame him for Vietnam, too, while they're at it!

It's not the War; it's not the lack of armor protection; or the
delay in benefits; it's Murtha, America's bad boy, now who is being painted as the 'traitor de jour,' the man willing to sell out a war that is forfeit from the starting gate.. But that may prove more of an impossible task for a government that is desparate to blame anyone for its own mistakes. In fact, anyone familiar with Murtha's record, knows that he is a staunch patriot who speaks from the heart; who has known more combat than just about anyone in DC today.

Murtha has now become the the leading cause of all of the government's ills. This case of 'begging the questions' thereby avoids the serious questions of why we're there in the first place. It keeps us from pointing the finger where it really belongs. Our military has yet to seriously look inside itself to find out why it blames others for conducting an unproven war against an unproven enemy for reasons shown to be fabricated and false.

Talk about inverted logic; this has to take the cake for trying to turn the argument upside down... After comments made by Murtha where he said that he would not enlist in today's army, General Peter Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said, "That's damaging to recruiting. It's damaging to morale of the troops who are deployed, and it's damaging to the morale of their families who believe in what they are doing to serve this country."

Rep. John Murtha says the military is blaming him for a recruitment slump instead of recognizing mistakes that have led to an enlistment shortage.
"They're trying to direct attention away from their problems," said Murtha, D-Pa., a decorated Marine Corps veteran who has become a leading voice in Congress advocating an early withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.
We can be sure based on past performance that this government will not stop til Murtha is defeated. If we support the tenets of Democracy, we need to mobilize to support Murtha now and see that his voice is heard above the crowd who would dare to call this hero to task for telling the truth.
